The person centred approach in counselling terms is to provide empathy, positive regard and offer that I am congruent in the relationship. So how does this work in website designing then?
Building a Relationship
I use active listening skills to hear what the business client states is their website design need. I offer congruently, my skills, knowledge and ideas for the clients needs, and listen again to what to what they want and then provide a website design service as they define. I provide information about website templates compare these to the use of one of my website designed packages, am transparent in my approach with clients and am sure that being honest about the challenges the business may face, provides them with valuable information about what additional website design and website services they may require.
Having Empathy
My empathic approach to the difficulties the business client may have is offered, as I do actually care about the development and design of a business website. My positive regard for the business client and their business is paramount and genuine.
Building Trust
As the business relationship develops, along with the website design, so does trust. It is this trust in my offering this person centred approach and relationship that has been recommended to others and has provided other small businesses and third sector agencies a website design and web service they can rely on.
Developing Website Design Support
When all of the above has been achieved, the development of the website and it's design can begin. Business clients know at this stage, I have listened, supported, been empathic, am genuine and am someone they can trust to feel the passion they have for their business and depict this on their websites.
I have recently heard that one web designer held the ownership of the website and does not want to release this to their client. I am frankly gobsmacked at this. All services provided to the client including photography services are offered as copyrighted to the client. They are my customer and their business and website design, development and online web presence is theirs to be supported not owned by anyone else.
